Default exhaust brake

hi I have a 96 powerstroke with an automatic tranny and I am wanting to put an exhaust brake on it but have been told that it will ruin my tranny is this a fact or should i take my chances also what kind of exhaust brake would you recommend thanks in advance.

I don't know how the wiring is on your year truck but I hooked a manual switch up to lock the converter on my 01 and also activate the EBPV manualy as a exhaust brake. The only way an exhaust brake can damage trans is if its used without locking the converter.

it is a 96 and i do believe it has the ebv valve on it. i will find out for sure
