Yours doesn't have the trailer plug/coupler now.. By 'plug ins' you mean harness connectors are there? Not trailering plugs... Correct..

there are 2 plugs-ins under the bumper now. a 4 prong(flat) and a round one. did the truck come with adapters to begin with?

also it looks like there was a trailer braking box bolted under the dash.

i guess what i am asking, did the truck come with any harness adaptors? that are missing and do i need to go to Ford and get them?

Well,, Let me answer it like this....

If the truck DIDN'T have an OEM trailer package when ordered, and trailering hardware wasn't added after purchase,, what you would have had was no reciever hitch on the back, the harness run to/at the back of the truck would have been tapped/strapped to the main harness (leading over to the passenger bed side) and not hanging down for access to the hitch bracket/s.. The 4 blade connector would have been there but tapped up.. There wouldn't be the RV style 'female' trailer plug/connector insertered into the harness end (it has to be purchased from Ford)... There would have been no brake controller ALTHOUGH Ford runs the brake controller/trailering wires up to the dash panel area for you.. A brake controller adapter plug with pigtail wires to attach to the main harness for a brake controller is included in 'most cases' and is usually in the glove box kit when new..

So... If you have a hitch, brake controller, the 4 blade plug, the 7 RV round plug, and it all works, you have eveything that its supossed to...

We add the trailering harware a lot of times to S/D's and Ford sells a hitch kit that comes with the hitch, attachment hardware, and even the plug brackets.. Again, the RV style plug that attaches to the harness is seperate, but just snaps onto the harness 'hub' then screws to the bracket next to the 4 flat connector.. A quick plug in to the dash harness with a few wire connections to the brake controller,,, mount the controller and your done...

So... You may have had a trailering optioned truck... Or, it could have been added with OEM equipment, or a combination of the two..

the plug up by the tailgate may have been used for a 5th wheel or gooseneck trailer.
