Default F350

We're looking to up grade our 2004 F250 Lariat to a 20015-17 F350 Lariat. Most of them have between 60-120 thousand miles on them. We made a mistake with the 04 6.0 engine, had lots of problems and expense with the turbo, trying not to make a mistake again. My mechanic says that he sees a lot of problems with the 6.7 diesel. Can anyone give and words of caution?

Welcome to the site..

The M/Y your considering is the second gen 6.7.
The first gens were the more problematic, The new builds, third gen, being the most refined.
That said, the second gens were far better than their older brother, and certainly a better power plant than the 6.0. 6.4 was the worst.
They did have injection pump issues in the first two gens, and EGR cooler soot/clogging. If your thinking of a second gen, have your local Ford Service run an Oasis Report per its VIN (no cost). It will give you a history of the truck on warranty repairs, as well as any service/update campaigns completed.
IMO. Id shoot for the best low mileage, well documented serviced rig.
I have a 17 250 6.7,, been trouble free, and a beast to tow with...
You could also purchase an extended engine warranty if offered that would help with the potential concern..

Thanks for your reply, it was very helpful. Called the local dealer and got the Oasis report, no issues. Dealer thought it was a good year, no majopr issues. Glad to hear that you're satisfied especially with towing, we'll be towing a 35 foot 5th wheel. No trouble pulling with the 04 F250, emergency stopping is an issue, the older we get the more safe stopping is an issue. All the bells and whistles are appealing too.
