Default How to replace window regulator gear plugs.

Hello I have a 95 F350 dually with 7.3 diesel I have a problem with the power windows.Part of the time they will roll up but will always go down.Any one else that has this problem?I have been told I need to replace the window regulator gear plug. I assume these go in the window regulator and not the motor. Can any one tell me how to go about removing the regulator it looks like it is riveted in.Thanks for any help that you can give me.

The gear problem is in the motor, not the regulator. Not sure if Ford dealers still sell the gear kit, but I hear that some parts stores carry a repair kit, possibly made by Dorman.

You don't have to remove the regulator. After removing the trim panel and water shield, located two dimples in the door metal near the window motor, these have to be drilled out to access 2 of the motor bolts, the other is accessible without drilling.

Thank you very much.I bought a kit at Napa that amounts to three plastric buttons. I have the motor out and I cleaned outall the broken pieces.

Should I put some grease on the plastic buttons? I'm not sure if there was any to begin with.

Yes, grease the gear and rollers. Wouldn't hurt to lube the regulator while your in their, just don't use a real heavy grease like wheel bearing.

Ford doesn't sell a gear kit for this but you can get the motor seperate from the regulator.

Thanks for the help I repaired both windows for $20.00 which is a lot cheaper then buying 2 new motors. I replaced the 3 nylonplugs in each motor with Napa part # 665-1524 and the windows work good as new..
