Default loss of power

I've got an '88 F-250 351 Win. I'm having a problem with loss of power when I try to accelerate from cruising speed (like passing someone) It almost feels like an exhaust blockage. I replaced the fuel filter and it seemed to help a little. Also the fuel gauge is peged on both tanks until they're almost empty then it works. Any Ideas? I could sure use the advise, we've got a kid on the way and money's tight.
Thanks!

Default RE: loss of power

Locate and remove the O2 sensor form in front of the Catayltic converter and see if this helps. In my shop I have replaced a bunch of these converters for exhaust blockage and this is the test I use for every one of them. BTW that converter is a big sucker and very costly to replace.
