Default oil leak / turbo 7.3

This evening my 99.5 f350 7.3 CC dually 4wd 6sp developed a severe oil leak. Looking to be near the turbo and worse to the passenger side of the truck. The engine never felt as if the turbo went out, never losing any power. I pulled over to see what all the smoke was about and could tell I had an oil leak. I still had good oil pressure so I tried to drive the truck to a safer spot to shut it down. Well it died, so I guess some type of sensor shut it down because of low oil level. The engine will still crank so I don't think I did any damage. Any ideas about where my oil leak is, what I am I looking at replacing? Is it a dealer job or can I fix it? Thanks, Luke

Default RE: oil leak / turbo 7.3

Whats the mileage on the clock, and was the engine oil low or off the stick?

Top side oil leaks tend to collect in the engine valleyand leak down the right/rear of theblock, finally making it's way out the passenger side opening then down the bell housing/starter area and can even look like a rear main leak at times.. Could be a turbo oilleak, or the HPOP (high pressure oil pump) in the forward valley area, or a leaking high pressure oil line from the pump to head/s..Depending on the severity of the leak, if the engine oil is depleted enough to cause the primary engine oil pump to suck air, it can't push oil up to the high pressure oil pump reservoir which is needed for fuel injection pressurefor the injectors.. No oil to the HPOP, engine dies.. Hard to know what is leaking, HPOP leaks are more common, but if you can get it to restart (if low on oil caused) and verify the leaks origin it would be better for help direction.. If you can get it to start, try and pinpoint the leak, or if you need to wash it down, may help if the valley is puddled with standing oil. A leaking turbo should'nt cause oil soaking under the HPOP concidering the engine angle.. Generally a severe oil leak is pretty easy to spot, more so if under high pressure.....

Hayapower,

Thanks for the info. Its was the hp oil line that runs over to the right side fuel rail.
