Default Starter has me puzzled, help!

Hello All,

I went to start my '93 F-350 today, had it plugged in and it turned over briefly, then the starter just clicks.

Thought that maybe batteries were low so charged them, even though they weren't.

So, then I figured the starter must have given up, so I took it off.

Then I tested it with jumper cables and it works fine!

So I'm thinking some wires or solenoid must be bad, they seem ok, so I just hook up the electrical and don't bolt it in and it works.

The only time it just clicks is when it is bolted in, I'm stumped, please help!!!

should not even ask but can you turn your engine over by hand i take it that it is deasel if you can make sure the sarter not in a bind when bolted up if the engine turns free with the starter off and does not when bolted up then some thing is binding between starter and flywheel if it is still free to turn when starter is on i would check for mosture in the engine dont laff my dad sold a car engine locked and all that was wrong was head blown and water was on top of piston the sad thing was he sold the car for $100.00 and cost $600 to fix the guy that bought it sold the car for $ 5000
