Default telescoping mirrors

We just bought a new F-250 XLT with the premium package.

Are the power telescoping mirrors designed to extend/retract independently of one another, or do they move in unison?

Apparently, I cannot extend one mirror without the other one doing the same thing.

Is that right?

That's is correct, swing and extension are in unison..
Just picked up a 17 XLT premium myself..
