Default 2006 Ford Five-Hundred

2006 Ford Five-Hundred. Check engine light has been on for a while. Recently, while highway driving with cruise on, the car would encounter a hill and the engine RPMs would race to 4500+ without an increase in speed (speed would actually decrease) so I woulld disengage the cruise. Once hill was cleared cruise could be re-engaged and car would return to normal operation. ODBII codes are: P0171, P0174, P061B, P2106. VIN#: 1FAFP23196C161846. Unemployed so any assistance would be appreciated! Is it safe to drive or am I only making things worse? Thanks, Rich

Hi,

Your P0171, P0174 Codes Indicate a too lean condition on Banks 1 and 2, respectively.

The P061B and P2016 are set in conjunction with each other. The P2106 is a "Forced Limited Power" code, in the Throttle Actuator Control System. The P016B is a "Torque Calculation Error" in the PCM. Looks like whatever is causing the Lean conditions on Banks 1 and 2 has caused the computer to limit the output of the engine.

I'd look for broken/leaking vacuum hoses or lines first. I had a 1994 Explorer that kept getting similar too lean codes and it turned out to be a contaminated Mass Air Flow Sensor. I found that after replacing both Oxygen Sensors, of course!

Best of luck!
