Default AWD not working, no lights or message

Hi, I have a 2007 Ford Five Hundred that the AWD is not working. I read alot of posts about it and they all have lights on the dash and a message that says AWD malfunction. I have no lights on and no message, is the dealer the only place that can pull DEM codes? What should I check? I do all my own work. THX.

Ok, so i jacked up the car and looked at things, the haldex pump, module and filter all look new compared to the rest of the rear, it also has the newer filter cap on it. the car only had 97,000 miles on it when i bought it. anyone have similar problems? AWD not working but no warning lights or messages?

Yes, all fuses are good. Gonna check fluid level and see if my buddies garage can pull any DEM codes.

Ok, I had no time so I took the 500 to a dealer. They told me the PTU needs to be replaced, they quoted me $2,900. They said that the driveshaft was not rotating and it is supposed to rotate all the time the car is moving. I declined the repairs, then when I got home and looked at the paperwork, it said the PTU needs replacing then they can see why the AWD wont work. Does anyone know why the PTU would'nt work? it looks like its just gears.

Problem found and solved, I got one off ebay with 60,000 miles for 80 bucks. Dealer wanted $3,000 to fix.
