Ford 500 radio upgrade
Revisiting with a similar question that I had last time I posted just a while back. I have an 06 Ford 500 limited with the basic a.m. FM 6CD radio. I am wanting to upgrade this using either a double din with AM/FM, CD, navigation, and Sirius XM ready. I realize I am asking a lot. In a later model Ford they had a radio that was very similar to mine with I believe navigation and XM ready. What I’m wanting to know is it looks like this would be an easy swap but is there more involved than I think that it would be? Like the XM radio part. if anybody has any suggestions, ideas, or whatever please respond. I would consider an aftermarket unit as well.
I would contact Crutchfield. They can recommend what would be best for your needs.

Crutchfield is the absolute #1 spot for doing your RESEARCH. Then go and buy the items you want somewhere else for 1/2 the price. Unless you are boujie and/or need the ongoing technical support that Crutchfield is also #1 for.
Thanks Beater! I have since gone with a Pioneer AVIC-8200NEX. In fact I have my original Ford unit on eBay right now. Still trying to work out some of the bugs but for the most part it seems to be working quite well. Steering wheel control works, back up camera seems to work whenever it wants to. And I’m having trouble with the CarPlay bit. But I’m thinking of taking it to a car audio place and let them set it up for me. I’ve looked at everything they have on Crutchfield and I almost bought one of their units but they kept advertising it as a new model unit but not yet available. Got sick of that and went and got a different one on eBay. But I’m still looking at some of their speakers to replace my originals.
Swapping in an aftermarket HU is pretty easy. We have 6 cars and I installed new HU on 5 of them. I bought my 2005 Town & Country new and have replaced the HU three times. Our Five Hundred has Pioneer speakers in the front and Kicker speakers in the rear. There is a huge sound improvement just by replacing the HU and speakers.

That is definitely some useful information for me. I was able to successfully switch out the HU. The only thing that it’s not quite working well is I can’t figure out how to get the back up camera to come come on as you put the car in reverse. The camera works but it’s just not activating correctly. The other thing with that is is with that camera my back up sensors do not work. If I cannot rectify that I will probably just disconnect the camera or have somebody look at it that knows what they’re doing. However, all that being said, I’ve been thinking of replacing my stock speakers so what you had to say is greatly appreciated. I will look into those brands that you mentioned. I’ve been looking off and on on Crutchfield but I haven’t decided on any certain brand yet because I have no idea which is going to be better than the other if they actually are.
