Default Reset oil life issue

Hi All,

I changed my 2005 Five Hundred oil and tried to reset the oil life (as I've already did previously) but now after I set it to 100% the value is not "saved". I still get back 0% no matter how many times I reset it. Is there anybody experienced the same? Any solution?

I have the "regular" dash issue too (gauges drop - may because of soldering) but I haven't fixed it yet, can this oil reset issue related?

Thanks in advance

If I remember correctly oil life in the DIC is part of the cluster. It is quite possible that the issues are related but to know for sure you will need to have it diagnosed.

Actually it just solved on it's own. One morning I tried the reset again, and the value is just saved.
Since than I've re-soldered few pins on the dash so the gauge wobble and disconnect also solved.

I am happy to hear it was fixed.

On my 500 my OIL CHANGE light came on. I have no issues with the cluster. When I looked at the odometer I knew I had another 1000 mi before I needed a change. Is this warning set to 4000 mi? Mine is changed at 5000. Back in '05 was Ford wanting the change at 4000? It's really no problem as I reset it back to 100%. Comments?

I am not sure exactly what formula Ford uses to calculate oil life on this vehicle but the oil life may have decreased due to time rather than mileage. Take a look at this post: https://www.fordtaurus.net/tech/rese...e-reminder.php

Kyle: It took a while, and I found the above in CHANGE OIL SOON/CHANGE REQUIRED on page 68 in my o/manual. So I have passed the 180 days. However, I have a little more that 1000 miles before I hit my 55,000 mark on my 500. Since the Motorcraft 5/20 Blended Oil has been used since Day 1 when my Mom bought this car I don't see any problems. I appreciate what you did, as I won't look like a jerk to my Ford dealer (LOL!). THANKS!

Default oil life

That ford synthetic blend is suppose to be good for 7,500. Maybe just ignore the oil change message, probably broke like most things on a ford. On my 500, things that don't work: All four doors fill with water when it rains, back up alarm doesn't work, antilock brakes lock up uneven so car swerves when braking hard, puddle lamps flick on and off, molding pealing off car, front end rattles so much, can't hear the radio (My mechanic says ford intentionally uses rubber that hardens hoping you'll buy a new car when it starts rattling. He say's it's a ford thing), A/C compressor went at 50k, catylitic converter went at 90k ($630), oil pump on rear differential on awd ($1,000). When looking for a car, look at how many miles other brands for sale have on them. Some brands get 160 to 200k on them and theyre still selling for a good price. There pretty much isn't a forgien brand out there that is considered inferrior to a ford. Expect about 80k out of a ford before it cost more to maintain then buying a new one.
