Valve Cover Gaskets, Wheel Bearing, Brakes
My son drives a 2006 Five Hundred. He went to the doctor for a minor hand injury from basketball. While at the doctor, he called me and said the Five Hundred was smoking. I drove there and looked at the car. I could not find any obvious source for the smoke so I followed him home. At first the car was fine but when we got closer to home there was copious amounts of smoke coming from the engine bay.
We got home and I looked at the engine while the car was running. Huge amounts of smoke were coming from the back of the engine. I guessed that the rear valve cover was leaking oil so after ordering and receiving the parts, I replaced the rear valve cover gaskets and upper intake manifold gaskets. The rear valve cover spark plug tubes were drowning in engine oil. I then test drove the Five Hundred and found the oil leak was fixed. But, the test drive revealed a super loud hum coming from the rear.
A few days later, I jacked up the rear and found the drivers side rear wheel hub was bad and making the loud noise. While I was there, I found the rear brakes were shot. I replaced the drivers rear wheel hub assembly and ordered brake parts.
I replaced the rear rotors, rear pads, and front pads and life was good. While I was there, I noticed that 2 out of 4 tires were severely worn so I ended up buying 4 new tires from Costco. Then the check engine light came on complaining about the throttle body so I replaced that too. I also did the water pump since it was leaking coolant into the front valve cover. In case anyone is wondering, all those parts added up to $1075 plus several weekends of wrenching on the car.
