Default CD Player Problems

Ok I've only had this car since July 2007, its a great car and I love it! But recently the cd player would not take any cd's but if they got stuck it would spit them out still. Now the unit will not take any cd's at all! I've tried blowing out the unit with canned air thinking it was dirty but to no avail! I know its still under warranty but I am kinda scared they wont fix it because the warranty might be voided because I had best buy install a drive and play system for my ipod. I just want to know if I might get any grief because I had someone install it for me and not the dealer.

AS long as the radio unit itself was not altered, then it will be covered under warranty.

I'm having the same problem, single disccd player stopped working. If I push a cd in manually it won't recognize it is there, but will eject it when i hit eject.I'm out of warranty and pretty handy with small electronics, soI would like to give this player a shot. I'm going to pull the thing out right now, so any advice on where to start would be great.

Oh yeah its a 2005 zx5 if that makes any differance.

It only took 20 minutes andthe cd playerworks again. I had a similar problem with a 98 explorer's cd player display, soI took a guess and sure enough, ford uses crap solder that melts or something and bleeds across the traces on the circuit board. For the explorer I cleaned the board with a brush and it worked for a while, but then went out again. I eventually resoldered most of the power supply and it has worked flawlessly ever since. I don't know if this fix is long term yet for the focus, but if itstops working i'll post back.

You will need a torx #10, and a small set of sockets.
1. Remove deck from car.
2. Open up the topcover of the cd player.
3. Take out the bracket that holds the cd player itself to inside the radio, disconnecting the 2 cables asyou go.
4. Take the cd player out of the bracket.
5. There are 3 wires visible from the top of the player,2 reds and a black maybe, that come from 2 micro switches near the front. follow those wires around to the bottom ofthe unit.wherethey terminate should beCDC02 DUMMY BOARD.
6. Disconnect the small white ribbon cable.
7.Compare the look of that board to others on in radio, notice how there is a corrosion all over the place?
8.Using astiff brushand asmall slotted screwdrivercleanthe hell out of that board, make sure to be gentle withthe screwdriver, but get in between each solder connection and every square inch of that board.
9. Reconnect ribbon cable and reassemblecd player.

Good luck!
