engine stuttering?
hello, im new. im chris. i have a 2000 ford focus and my problem im having is my engine starts to stutter when im accelerating or reversing. it sounds like it wants to die and doesnt speed up as fast as it should. my engine light came on to. i use my car like 2 times a week cause i have a work car for my job, any ideas what is up? thanks!
I may have the same problem you do. I have a 2001zts that sputters really bad when you try to accelerate but idles fine.
My friend has a diagnostic reader and it read IAT. Car does not have one so the ford dealership said it was the mass air flow sensor. Replaced the m a s and it didn't fix the problem. Could it be the oxygen sensor or could the catalytic converter be blocked off? Hope someone can help.

Several things to look into: Check Engine Light, get it scanned at an autoparts store foe free, it will tell you something. Clean out the throttle body, change the fuel filter, check for any vacuum leaks, clean out the EGR valve, port, and tube, make sure the MAF senor is clean (the wire), run soem fuel system cleaner. Those are a few things to check.
I put a new catalytic converter and exhaust on and it still stuttered, but the diag. reader picked up miss-fire on #2, and #3 cyl.. Checked to see if I was getting spark to #2, and #3 and I wasn't. Bought a new ignition coil, PROBLEM SOLVED. RUNS LIKE A NEW ONE. hope this helps.
My 2002 ZX5 stalled on acceleration. Replaced fuel filter and ignition coil kit without solution. I researched and discovered a recall on the fuel pump. Had it replaced and so far, so good... So, check the fuel pump and check if there's a recall...might save you some $. Good luck. Andy
