Does anybody know if the motor has to be dropped to replace the water pump ?

 

You should be able to replace the water pump with the engine in the vehicle. You'll just have to remove items to gain full access. If you've never done a FWD water pump, I would recommned taking pictures before and during the dis-assembly to help re-installing everything in their proper place.

 

negative, you just need to lift the engine about 2 inches, loosen the engine mounts, lift the engine under the oil pan and you will be able to replace the water pump, I did it in my 2004 and that's the only way to do it.
