Default Transmission problem

It started with transaxil light blinking. I couldn't rectify it and the tranny died out completely.
Then I got another transmission (not brand new). After the installation the transaxil light still blinks, it drives sluggish and feels very heavy on the ground. What else could be the problem please?
It's a 2004 Freestar Limited Edition

Until you check for fault codes most anything is a shot in the dark.

The starter does not engage the crown. Cause: wear of parts, chipped teeth, etc. Teeth grinding is heard when trying to start. Get ready to replace the ring or flywheel. The transmission fluid may already be worn out. I take mine here best cvt transmission fluid .The timing belt may have broken. It is easy to feel: the starter turns easily. If you are lucky, it is enough to replace the belt, if not, then half of the motor.
