Default 2005 Freestyle won't start

My 2005 Freestyle won't start; first I thought it was the battery since lights would dim and then when the ignition turned off the gauges shook and clicked.

I put a battery in and get full power, but then it just "clicks"; sounds like the starter, but with these new cars, I can't be sure.

Anyone have any advice before I spend big bucks to tow it to the dealer and have them look at it?

Thanks,

Some new batteries require charging before you put them in. Change/check battery cables.
