Default 1979 to 1993 right?

Most the stuff on a 1979 mustang through a 1993 mustang are interchangable right? What isn't?

How 5.0s were built in a 79? are they rare?

And what were the rear end options?

5.0's are most popular from the mid 80's onward.

79-83 (I think) got the "mistake" 255 CI V8.

Rear end was a 7.5 Inch.

Tranny usually was a C4 for Automatics, AOD for O\D Autos, and im not sure about manuals, I think a Tremec T5.....atleast in the later ones.

later,
Dustin

If you are thinking about going from a four cyl. to a 5.0 liter. The '87 to '92 are the stronger engines. The '93 is posted as having 5 less hp..But the '93 has the better world class T-5 5 speed. The best thing to do is to purchase a totaled mustang and go from there. That way you have every thing to make yours a V-8. From the radiator to the 8.8 rear. Think about it, you need every thing-wiring,computer,trans.,suspension,ect.... I have a freind that does this, and he said even the brake line to the rear is different. He also said that it's easy to do if you have a good doner car. Good luck!

i think that 5.0's where in the stang from 79 and 80 then in 81 and 82 they were 255 cubes. starting in 83 the 5.0 was back and the crappy 7.5 inch rear end wasn't swapped for the 8.8 until 86. the 79 5.0 was not a very good engine if you want performance you need to find a 87 to 92 5.0, because they have forged internal's. Where as the 93 model had hyperutechtic pistions. that aren't really up to major performance, because they can't withstand hi rpm's for long period of times like say when you drag race.

79 was the first year for the fox body and it ran the 5.0 80 and 81 ran the 255 82 was the first year back for the 5.0 and they ran the c4 for the auto and a BORG WARNER 4 spd for a manual tranny till 83 or 84 then they switched to the 5 spd, 79 to 85 GT and 79 to 93 lx 4 cyl had the 7.5 rear end. Dashes from 79 to 86 are the same and 87 to 93 are the same. 79 to 82 had the same hoods 83 to 86 had the same hood and 87 to 93 had the same hood. everyone has their opinions about what year was the best and i feel that the 89 is the best because it was forged internals, t5 and mass air and didnt have air bags yet. 79 to 85 were carbed v8s and the 79 through 83? had the 2 bbl on them and 84 and 85 had 4bbl. thats just the stuff that popped to my head im sure i missed alot but all the body panels are interchangeable like the hatch quarters doors and fenders. oh and 79 to 85 had single hump cross memebers and 86 through 93 had double hump exaust with a H pipe and true dual exaust..
