Default Disappearing gas

I just replaced the fuel pump in my 96 Mustang 4.6. Now the gas is disappearing. I don't see any leaks but smell a strong odor of gas. Have I reinstalled something incorrectly? Is there a trick to installing the fill pipe? That is the only thing I can think might not be right. The pumps two hoses are different sizes so they can't be backwards. Electrical connections can't be goofed up. Where is the gas going? Half a tank in 20 miles!!!

I found the problem. The grommet where the fill pipe meets the fuel tank was bad. I didn't know what it was supposed to look like but when I bought the new one - wow. Thanks for responding.
