Default 1989 Ranger hood

Hey everybody, new to this forum and I have a question I can't seem to find an answer to. I bought a 1989 Ranger from an older feller that has only 66200 miles. Everything on the truck works and it runs great. The carpet doesn't even look like anyone has put their feet on it. My question, there is what appears to be a factory made hole in the front edge center of the hood. There is a black plastic plug covering the hole. What is the purpose of the hole? I will try and post a picture.

Not sure you can see the plug

Right in the middle of the hood on the ridge that runs from the windshield to the front of the hood. If you can see a picture you can click on it and then use the magnifying glass to enlarge the pict.
