Default 2.3L 4cyl w/8sparkplugs.....

I'm not a Ford owner so could someone tell me why there are 8 sparkplugs in the 4cyl engine in my buddies Ranger???? I think it's a 2.3L EFI motor.

yes you are right its to make more horsepower without using more gas, but now they have better fuel injection systems and way better spark plugs

right side fires on compression[normal ignition] left side fires on exhaust stroke to clean up emmissions. cleaner air, no more power, no more mileage.

The plugs fire first on the intake side and then a few degrees later on the exhaust side for a longer spark.

ORIGINAL: Frankenstein Ford

The plugs fire first on the intake side and then a few degrees later on the exhaust side for a longer spark.
Both plugs fire on the power stroke. Goal was a stronger wave front to create more power during combustion.
