Default 2.9 ranger

I bought a 92 ford ranger with no motor or trans. It origionaly had the 4.0 V6, AT in it. I have a 2.9 motor and trans out of an 87 ranger im going to try to put in it. I am wondering if there is anything i have to change to make the 2.9 to work in it or if it drops in and will work. thanks jackson

Default RE: 2.9 ranger

The 2.9 and the 4.0 are siblings with just different bore/stroke. The 2.9has a3.7 inchbore and a 2.8 inch stroke while the 4.0 has a 3.95 inch bore and a 3.32 inch stroke. If using the same type of tranny (auto or manual) then it seems that everything should be PLUG-N-PLAY. The CPU may need to be changed if there is a measurable difference in the duration of injector pulse for the 4.0 verses the 2.9. This is just basic info to help you get started.
