Default 2001' Ranger Edge 4x4

I just bought a 2001' Ranger Edge 4x4 with 74,500 miles. It has a 3.0L V-6. It's in EXCELLANT condition and had 1 owner. He took very good care of it. Through time it has developed a leakat the oil pan. It looks like a bad pan gasket. A gentleman told me that the engine has to be jacked up to get the pan out and replace the gasket. By looking at it, I don't think so. Even if the oil pump hangs into the pan, the deepest part of the pan drops with no obstruction with the shallow end over a cross member. Before I take this apart, can anyone confirm this "rumor" ?? To jack it up, or NOT to jack it up to get the oil pan out ?????? [:@]

I did a rear main seal and oil pan gasket on a 3.0L but did not have to jack it up. I had to remove the transmission.

Thank you for the reply. I can understand dropping the trans for the rear seal, but does the trans have to be dropped to replace the oil pan gasket ???
