Default 2001 Ranger Transmission

I am not sure what is causing this. I have a 2001 Ranger XLT 2WD and so far only happened twice with the truck having sit all day at work or at home overnight. When I shift into reverse sounds like the transmission jerks. Is it possible the parking brake cable is hanging up and not releasing right away?
