Default 2003 rager 3.0 2wd Question

Hello folks glad to be a member of the ford family. I have been driving for 2 years now and love rangers.. My problem/question is my ranger is having a problem I put it in neutral and it wont go past 3grand they say thats the revlimtaor? also I cant really stomp it to the floor it just sets there and spudders and wont go past 4 1/2 UNLESS im going like 60 and hit the gas it will take off? What does this ranger need Ill take pics if needed Thanks folks have a good one

It is an automatic and will not shift to a lower gear if the engine will be much over 4300 rpm. The neutral is a revlimiter to protect the engine. The engine does not hit the torque curve well until 3900rpm. Thats were you feel the truck kick you in the pants. As soft as it does.......
