Default 2004 2WD Edge Engine Issue

I have a 2004 single cab 2WD Edge, 3L V6 with 124K miles. My son ran it out of oil to the point that it was knocking bad enough that I was surprised that a rod didn't bust through. I pulled the engine and know cannot find anyone in the local area that will rebuild it. I am not a auto mechanic.... A rebuilt engine 3.0L V6 will cost about $1400. Should I just sell the truck for what I can get out of it? I don't want to spend $1400 with my limited knowledge to put the engine back in. As most mechanics know it is easier to remove than install. I just don't know what to do. Thank you for any advice you can give me. Mike in Alabama.

If there's no one to do the build, a salvage yard can sometimes be of help with a used/complete engine.
