Default 2006 Ranger RPM limited

2006 Ford Ranger 2.3L dual over head cam

Ok, I took on the truck which has a blown motor. The truck was running fine till the #4 piston decided to let go.

I got a junk yard motor and noticed the #1 cyl didn't have compression. I pressure checked the cylinder and it had leaking intake valves. I removed the intake cam and smacked valved to knock off build up. Re checked compression and all good. I did do the full cam and crank timing as this engine is in-depth.

During the build up I had noticed when the old motor came apart alot of oil was forced into the intake and exhaust. (keep in mind)

I installed the motor and fired right up. Alot of smoke of coarse from the oil in the exhaust system.

Now for the ?????, The motor doesn't seem to be producing power above 3000 rpm. It acts like it has a governor. The RPM's come up fine and stop at 3000+200. It bounces 3200-3000-3200.

I though since the intake has so much oil in it that maybe the sensors gopt damaged. Since I had the intake from junk yard motor I swapped it out and no change.

I was really hope it would have been the TPS sensor, but I can believe 2 are bad and same symptoms.

I read someone had problems with a cam sensor, but it idles so nice, just no power above idle really.

Please and suggestions????

Default Rev limiter

Ive read this truck may have a rev limiter keeping it below 3000. If this is so then why would the truck really have no pulling power or quick accell. Maybe the MAF sensor got jacked when engine let go?

You check the exhaust/cat for restriction?

Have you checked fuel pressure during the stall or flat throttle?

Well I'm waiting till exhaust cools down, I put a vacuum gage on it and watched as rpm came up. On a cell the vacuum dropped of as normal and raised up. As soon as engine hit 3000 rpm the vacuum fell of to 10 inches.

Are you running the 3000 RPM when the vehicle is going down the highway or setting in the driveway?

um, hello, but this is programmed with a rev limiter (because you're NOT SUPPOSED TO BE REVVING IT THAT FAST IN NUETRAL) at this speed. If it runs good at speed, drive it till it breaks. This is normal.

Sorry I misread it. Not the first time I've been wrong. Could the t-belt have possibly been installed a tooth off? It real easy to do...
