Default 4wd right for me?

Is 4wd right for me? I wan't to get either a Ford Ranger or Toyota Tacoma. I want a truck cause I think they're cool, I want to haul a small boat jon boat around 400 pounds maybe once a week.I live in Northern Illinois where the winter roads can be brutal, but i survivied the past 4 with a 1994 grand am tho, The 4wd would give me added comfort. I won't be doing any offroading.

Based on my needs, is 4wd worth the added money and possible problems late down the road right for me? Thank you[/align]

Get a Ranger. The 4WD shouldn't give you any issues as long as its maintained( transfer case fluid-no leaks, axel gear oil- no leaks, lube any joints if applicable, etc) If it were my truck I would get a Ext. cab 4.0 V6, 5spd manuel, with 4WD. You may want a 3.0 if fuel economy is a major concern. The 3.0 will probably only get 1 MPG better than the 4.0, though.
