85 Ranger Idle
Iaks Without looking it would be hard to say.But in the past Ive solve the problem several differant ways.
Check all vaccum hoses to make sure there all connected and ran to the right spots. There should be a chart under the hood.
Change the air filter.
Change fuel filter.
Basic tune-up(plugs and such)
rebuild or replace carburetor.
There are many other factors also.
You could try changeing the place you buy gas also or buy higher grade gas.The gas additives in part stores haven't ever helped any of my cars but you could give it a try.
Opps missed one adjusting the idle............
does it have a O2 sensor? If so then that may be bad also.Does the idle sometime speed up or slow down on it's own?
There probaly some more possiblities that i don't know.Or forgotten about.
If you do all these things and it still don't fix it then sorry for missimformming you,

I'm kinda in the same boat. I have a 2.8 in my 85 and it will slow idle, and drive down the road good, but when i go to pull out from a stop, i have to choke it with the manual choke i had to install. Once it starts rolling i open the choke and it does ok until i shift gears, then it like wants to stall again, then it feels like it's trying to give me whiplash and off I go again....
