Default 88 ranger 2.9L

Hey guys , New to the site. I am really in to jeeps , so i dont know lot about rangers. I have an 88 with the 2.9 auto, that i bought just to drive back and forth to work. Anyway here lately it has been idleing very poory and sometimes stalling. It also hesitates when going down the road and if u floor it , it comes back to life but just happens again a couple minutes later. I have replaced the fuel pump and filter with no results. I thought it might have been the pump because it has always been hard to start and had to crank longer than it should. Thanks for any help. I would like to get it back on the road , so can quit gettin killed on gas in the jeep.

Thanks Nate

it might be your fuel pressure regulator, it's right by the distributor cap, it's round and is about the size of a raquetball, attached to your fuel line coming from the filter

If i take it to autozone will they be able to pull a code that will tell me anything without the check engine light on ? I have always heard that you had to have a check engine light on to get a code. But i am not gettin one.

Thanks Nate

The 88 Ranger is too old for a code reader. Have the timing checked and wht plug wires. Also check your egr sensor and your egr valve. Check your Mass airflow sensor.

I had the same problem with my Ranger. A vacum line had fallen off of the ram air, down near the radiator.
