Default 88 ranger stereo wiring

1988 Ranger, 2wd, standard cab, long bed, 2.3l engine.
The Factory am/fm cassette player stopped working right so I would like to install an after market. Problem is I can't locate a correct wiring diagram. My Haines manual and 2 different web sites show diagrams all matching each other. But they don't match the colors on my truck. Is it possible there was an early or late year change in the wiring?
Thank you,
Rich

It may be the same as my 90. I replaced my stereo as well and wrote in my manual what color wire is what, but you will have to wait until I get home work. I didn't drive the truck today.

Easy way to do the job, is pick up the pigtail adapters that plug into the OEM harness connectors, and they have the wire function/description printed on the wire leads for the connection to the aftermarket unit.. Most stereo shops have them, and Radio Shack used to offer them.. That way you leave the factory harness uncut or spliced.. I have a set right here, and can scan the connector/s and can add script to the color/function if you need it..

If you haven't bought a new stereo yet and want to do the install yourself, I highly recomment www.cruthfield.com. They'll send everything you need along with the stereo do install it....new wiring harness, instructions, adaptor plate, etc. I used them when I bought my Alpine and all you need is a pair of wire crimpers and caps. not too hard at all....
