88 ranger transmission problem

88 ranger transmission problem
sounds like its shifting fine, but just wont go. all fluids are full. someone suggested that it might be a bad torque converter? any ideas?
also it will work for about 1 or 2 miles, maybe just until it gets hot, im not sure
