I have a 93 ford ranger( reg. cab long bed 4x4 5 spd) with the 4.0liter V6(160hp). I want to put a new 4.0liter V6(205hp) in it. The things i need to know are will the newer engine bolt up to the old transmission, will the newer engine even bolt in, and does anybody offer a conversion kit, and what about the computer system in the newer engine going into the older truck. I want to find a newer 4.0 engine( 01 to 04 ), transmission and transfer case and put them in my 93 ranger. I know there are 302 V8 swaps I could do but i think this swap would be sweet.

 

It can work, but the trans bellhousing pattern is just slightly different, as is the computer and I think the motor mounts as well

Your better off with a 302\351W.

Thanks for the reply, I have looked into it further and the 302 swap is better, the price places want for the new 4.0L engine is crazy. If i did the 4.0L swap I would be better off buying a whole wrecked ranger.
