Default 94 2.9 won't run

hi all, I picked up a 94 4x4 2.9 ranger for my friends son. I can't get it to run,and started doing all the checks. It has fire and the fuel pump is working, and the truck will run if I feed it gas through the throtle body.
The check engine light comes on with the key turned on and I put a test light
On the injector and it lights up but will not flash. Ground it out caused the injectors to click . What do I need to look at next? Thanks !

I would look for a "GREEN" ground. Check the negative lead(s) coming off of the battery terminal. There is a small lead from the battery that is the main ground for the CPU. This ground can cause the injectors not to inject fuel. Had this issue with my old 1988 Ranger w/2.9. Drove me nuts for about 3 days. Ford at that time used a fuse link for this ground at the battery that came disconnected causing the injectors to not operate. Not sure if they still used the same set-up for the 1994 Ranger.
