Default 96 2.3L cat

How can I tellif my emission system is Cal. or Federal? I was in an accident a few years ago and they must have had to replace a part with the emission sticker on it. I am looking for a cat at autozone.com and some of their cheaper cats say not for use on Cal. emissions.
By the way, my Ranger has 263k on it. Could the cat be causing it to have a loss of power in the summer?
Thanks

i have seen the cats here that say not legal in california. if the cat is plugged it will rob you of power. i would just get one that conforms to california standards and be done with it.
