Age old question, why is A/C not cold at idle or slow traffic?
I have a 92' Ford Ranger with 2.9V6. It has 220,000 miles. I just had A/C repair work done: new compressor/clutch, relay, cycle switch, o rings, evacuation, and re-charge with 134.
It is frustrating that it is not cold when the car is idling or caught in slow traffic. If I step on the gas in neutral it gets colder. When I run it at normal speeds it is fine. Why do we spend all this money if it can't be cold all the time. I need the A/C to keep me cool during slow rush hour traffic in the Arizona summertime. Can something be done about this, or this just the way it is? Should I run it at max A/C? I use normal A/C to conserve energy.
My mechanic also told me that 134 freon does not run as cold as the old refrigerant. He also said that the condenser from old system won't be 100% compatible with the conversion to 134. I think he put 1.5 cans of freon in because he thought it might be too much pressure. Does it need a little more freon?
Also, why do some cars have really cold A/C as soon as the engine starts, others it takes a little while for temperature to chill?
Thanks,
Dave

Sorry can't answer the question, But I do know the older stuff was much better, but damn environmentalist got in the way. My 06 mustang gt is the same way. It gets colder while at speed than when sitting there. It sucks.
