Default Brakes grabbing and releasing

I bought a 1999 Ranger last year, and the front brakes are real "grabby" when I first start driving and especially when it is wet. It's kind of scary, because right after they lock up, they seem to release completely for a split second. The overall braking performance is poor. Even when they are warmed up, when I make an emergency stop, the brakes seem to grab then release even with the pedal depressed. I have seen this in an Astrostar that I used to drive at work. Has anyone seen this before?

Sounds like a serious problem. I would take it in for service.

I would have them checked. The rear brakes may be failing causing the front ones to "grab". Also check the caliper slides.
