Default EGR & EVAP monitors not ready

Hello All,

I failed emissions due to EVAP and EGR monitors not being ready. 01 Ranger 2.3 liter, 5 speed 204k miles. Have not changed or disconnected battery lately. Completed drive cycle.
I had it tested with 3/4 tank of gas.

Could it be a bad gas cap? What about a bad fuse? Any suggestions as I am not that familiar with this area of my truck.

Thanks in advance !

I've lived in an IM240 area most of my career, and have never heard of a car failing emissions due to an incompleted monitor.
Usually, this follows one of two tracks. Either there is a code in the PCM that is not allowing the monitors to run and clear; or, the monitor never runs due to something else.
In order to offer any help, it would be helpful to know if there are any codes in the processor memory.
If there are codes (even pending ones), it can be helpful. Perhaps Autozone could scan them for you. Write them down and let us know!

Also, to add to Greasemarks response...

If there are codes, don't have them cleared as you'll have to restart the Drive Cycle again.

Depending on where you live , some states are now checking monitor status also.
