Engine Code
My truck has been blowing a p1400 code for over a year now. I took it to a friends garage and he read it and said it was insufficient flow to egr. Told me to replace the egr valve. I did so and the very next day the check engine light came back on. He erased it and again it came on. I drove it for a lil bit and replaced the egr again as I thought it might be a faulty new egr valve. Again it is coding. So I know it isnt that. I been driving it as I cant let it sit anywhere. I need a vehicle to get back and forth to work. Has anyone had any dealings with this as I am sick and tired of 1. the light being on. and 2. the truck seeming like it has less power and seems to shake or miss at low rpms. I would take it to the dealer but they will charge me an arm and a leg to fix prolly a prolly under $100.00 part. Oh the truck is a 1999 ford ranger 4x4 3.0 flex fuel 5spd. Any input would be greatly appriciated.

I had a bad DPFE sensor on my 1997 3.0. It is on the drivers side, behind the EGR. It is a small box, connected to vacuum lines and is made of metal or plastic. Check the vacuum hoses to make sure they are not split, or cracked. The metal box is subject to corrosion and the plastic one can have problems also.
DPFE (Delta Pressure Feedback) sensor. It reads egr flow and is quite common to go out. Ford has a TSB out for it and has extended warranty on that part for 2 years/24k miles over the regular 3yr/36. If your truck has less than 60k miles and the original warranty started less than 5 years ago, then it should be a free repair at a Ford Dealership.
I thought it might be that sensor. The autoparts store I went to before for the egr valve told me that it might be that sensor. THey showed it to me. It was black and had an electrical plug to it. It also had two plastic hoses to it that went to another area in the motor. This sensor is located up front in the middle of the engine compartment. They said after I replaced the egr valve that it might be that piece if it wasnt the egr. I wish when this started that I wouldve took it to the dealer. My truck has about 64,000 miles on it so with what you told me it wont be covered under that warranty. Oh well just my luck. Thanks for the inputs. I will try and get that device and see if it fixes it. I will post and let you know how it works out. Wont be getting it for a lil while as christmas is around the corner.
When I go to start my 1999 Ford Ranger 4.0 4x4 there is no response. The dash lights up but nothing happens. I thought maybe it was the starter or selinoid but with a screwdriver was able to get the selinoid to engage the starter but even with the key in the run position engine would turn over but not fire. Any suggestions???
