Default fuel leak

I have a 94 ford ranger with a bad fuel tank filler hose. Is there anyone else that has had this problem? When I pump gas it leaks underneath the truck until I quit pumping. My mechanic says it is a defective hose that he has had to replace on a number of rangers even on models newer than mine. Ford says there is no recall on this. I can't afford the part plus labor costs. Any suggestions? I already checked the salvage yards & they don't have any that aren't cracked.

Default RE: fuel leak

Your mechanic is right, this is a problem that has plauged our beloved Ranger for many model years. Its a defective design and Ford has not issued any recall, however there was a rumor of an online attempt to bring this issue to the highway safety committe.
In short: yes it sucks, No you are not alone.
