Default n00b with a new (to me) Ranger with a problem..

Hi everyone,

Just bought an 87 Ranger 2.3 five speed today.. The idle is too high and the truck bogs when you hit the throttle hard like a carbureted engine would if it had a bad accelerator pump. Otherwise the little truck runs fairly well.

My suspicions are that the throttle position sensor is bad.

Is the TPS a likely culprit and what other things might be causing this?

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to offer.
