Questions about ignition system.
I am putting a 2.3 liter Turbo in a project pickup. I am not familiar with this engine and it's systems so maybe someone can teach me a few things.
Regarding the ignition system; The turbo engine I have is a 1985 4 cylinder out of a T-bird but I understand this 2.3 was a standard for Rangers for a long time. It has a distributor without points and I understand that but I have no other ignition parts. What else do I need to build my ignition system? I am sure there is a coil of some type and I have also read about using a coil pack. Does this eliminate the distributor? How clean can I make this system in terms of simplicity? Do I need the T-bird or Ranger fuse panel because it has relays etc I may need? I have done some innovating with builds where I used later engines without a distributor, only a coil system, an igniter and the ECU. This is going into a 1929 Ford pickup (an old Ranger I guess). Thanks for any help you good folks can offer. Jon |
