Default Quick question

I have an '89 ranger with a blown up 2.9 and a new trany. It is really tough to find a 2.9 around me, so I want to put a 4.0 in it. My problem is that I was told that the 4.0 will bolt up to the trany for the 2.9 but that it will wear out the front bushing in the trany really quickly. Is this because the 4.0 has much more power, or the conecting shaft too long or short? I guess what I would like to know is, is there a modification I can do to make it work, or an adapter i can buy to solve my problem? Any input would be very much apreciated. Thanx.
