Default Quick question new to forum

Hello, My grandmother has given me my grandfathers old 1990 ford ranger. It is running but not well. I plan to fix it up myself just to drive around the house. My question. It has the 2.3 litre 4 banger from what I have seen there are two serpentine belts one seems to drive the alternator and the other important parts and the other is for the A/C unit. The A/C went out a long time ago and when the truck is idleing there is a whistling sound coming from the A/C side of the engine. Could I just remove the belt that is running the A/C compressor without causing any trouble or is there more than just the A/C compressor on that side? Thanks alot for your info and time.

Welcome. If the a/c is not working and the belt drive's nothing but the a/c you can remove it or just simply cut it off.
