racing chip
I was wondering if putting a chip in my truck would be a good idea or not its a 2000 ford ranger sport with 168000 miles on it and it runs like a champ. I had it at the track last weekend and it ran a 15.1 all stock. and i want to run the 1/4 mile in at least 12 secs. i believe i can do it if i try and put the correct parts on it tell me what i can do the engine is a 3.0L/182. automatic transmition

Intake, exhaust, and any weight you can shed(spare tire etc) will be the easiest way to improve 1/4 mile times. As far as the chip is concerened I don't think that it would hurt your truck any. Check out BAMA chips, I've heard good things about them.

good luck with everything. everything that everyone is saying is true. but you have to realize that shaving 3 seconds off your time will be hard with out spending some serious money. but if you want to go ahead. just stay away from the stuff that they claim will work ie those damn tornado air things, chips off of ebay that arent a name brand and sell for 10 bucks just pointless crap like that. i have a 3 litre also in my truck and i put exhaust and a k&n filter and it ran 10 times better than when i did not have it. let us know how it turns out.
also check out throttle body spacers from airaid (spelling) also think about putting bigger throttle body in also.

Here is jet chip performance, I had one of there products on my Silverado. And it did the job. My buddy has one on his and lieks it as well. I believe chips are good, but only when you get the stuff mentioned above to help bring them all together and get better performance. So I would get the exhaust and CAI before getting the chip.

i hate to say it but getting a ranger to run a 12 sec quater mile is crazy and with the money it would take you should just go buy a ford lighting that will do the job with ease, but if you pull of that miricale you'l have to post it, but again i can't see that happening

RE: racing chip
Im new here and dont want to sound like a dick but i find it hard to believe that a stock 3.0 will run 15.1 my friend has a 2000 with a 3.0 auto and I smoke him like he is on blocks with my blown 4.0 and I only run 15.3. Most stock mustang gts run in the mid 14 second range the GT500 with 500 horse runs consistant 12s and hits the 11s with good tires. My truck is a 94 with a 4.0 with an eaton m90 supercharger pushing just 4lbs of boost and has an automatic tranny and 3.27 gears and i ran with stock 235x75x15 tires
