i have a 2001 ford ranger edge,4x4 with the 4.0 auto,my brakes are acting up when i go to stop the and i get almost stoped the abs starts kicking the pedal up so i cant stop,all the brakes ars fairly new,how do i go about bleeding out the abs unit without a computer ,any input would be helpful thanks

 

Sounds more like you have a speed sensor problem. The computor thinks it's seeing one wheel locking up because it is getting a faulty signal from one of the sensors and it goes into antilock. The vehicle should still stop though.

 

Common issue with the Rangers/Explorers. The most common issue is caused by the grease in the wheel bearing breaching the seal. The grease then accumulates in the teath in the toner ring causing fluctuating signal strengths which in turn causes the ABS to engage when you are almost to a stop (then you travel that extra 5-10 feet before stopping). To check for this problem, unbolt the sensors from the HUBs and turn the hubs looking for signs of grease. If present, replace the hub(s). A new hub should come pre-loaded with a new sensor. If only one hub has grease breaching, either replace the other hub (may have or soon will have same issue) or replace the other sensor as the new sensor will send a stronger signal the the older one on the other side causing the same problem.
