Default Ranger keeps breaking timing belts

'89 Ford Ranger, 4 cylinder - 200k miles
My truck keeps breaking timing belts. I have replaced it 4 times in the last year. The first three times, the belt just broke. When I got the old one out, it was all chewed up. The last time it just came off (I replaced it with a new one). The truck ran for about 6 months before it came off (5,000 miles).

Any ideas as to what might be causing this problem? Is this a common problem for the Ford Rangers?

TIA

Default RE: Ranger keeps breaking timing belts

sounds like you are either over-tightening the belts when you put them on or you are not getting them seated properly by turning the engine over by hand several revolutions BEFORE you start it the first time. Try posting it here........http://www.rangerpowersports.com/forum/
