Default Squeaky Belt

Just got my 1999 ranger as my first car about 3 months ago and about aweek ago noticed my belt was making some noise. Looked at it noticed some cracks so i decided to buy a new one. After buying it i noticed it making 1 little noise when i started it but it wasnt bad so i thought nothing about it. But when i accelerate it get pretty loud. Tried putting belt dressing on it and that acually made it make more noise even when its just idleing. No idea what to think anymore. Maybe its not even the belt but a pully or something?

any ideas will help.

As you noticed, you don't put belt dressing on a serpentine belt, just makes it worse. Where did you get the belt and is it any worse that the original noise? You could have a bad tensioner pulley, that would allow it to slip and make noise. Did you measure the old and new belt to make sure they are the same.[sm=mail.gif]

Did you check your idler pulley? and the tension pulley? Both should spin free with no squeeks or binding. Take a straight edge and check to make sure all pulleys are in alignment.
