Default theft light blinking

I have a 2000 Ranger and the theft light has started to blink intermittently while I'm driving. Once it even stayed on steady without blinking for a couple of minutes. Do I need to get it to the shop before it quits on me or is there a way to fix it myself. I would prefer to fix it myself since I'm a lot cheaper than a Ford dealership.

Default RE: theft light blinking

I don't think this is one you can do yourself. The antitheft light is part of the pats system, and that is only checked when you first turn the ignition on. The transciever sends out a pulse to the key, when responds with a signal and the transciever tells the ECM and instrument cluster that the correct key has been used. If it starts flashing while driving, then you have a problem with either the ECM, Cluster or communication. You will have to get the code read, and I'm not sure that Auto Zone can read those systems. I mean the PATS and Cluster.
